Very good report. I'm going to share this with some friends...

Maybe now they will learn that Buenos Aires is NOT the capital of Brazil! LOL!

I'm going to share this too.

My favorite part was when Lula made the comment on European standards/perfectionism. We are latin America baby, when in Rio...

Very interesting, thank you for posting! I do find it funny how Lula is always elevated to such an unbelievable level as if he was the perfect president with a 4th grade education. I wouldn't have known different but this book offers a very different opinion. Its incredible! Obviously the book is bias but in sum it really says it was Cardoso that turned the country around and Lula just got lucky and rode the wave of success without screwing anything up. I encourage you to check it out...

"The accidental President of Brazil" A Memoir of Fernando Henrique Cardoso.

I do want to follow that up before I might get any negative reaction, that was the sum of what the book was saying. And it was an interesting perspective I hadn't known.

I am proud of Lula and the work he has done. Its incredible that Brazil is able to feature both a world event as large as the olympics AND the World Cup. I also love that he is firm in defending Brazil to the stuffy Europeans. That is why I love Brazil and glad I didn't move to London!

Ms. Paper -- I totally agree that the presidency of Fernando Henrique Cardoso set the stage for the success of Lula's time in office.

The book you reference is worth reading and I said as much here http://qualidadedevida-jim.blogspot.com/2010/10/reading-about-brazil-and-some-good.html

But I also notice the relentless critique of a socialist politician when he or she wants to create good in a country. Stop and notice the real results of these policies!!

Among my upper-middle-class friends Lula gets NO CREDIT for the BOOM that has been the last 8 years in this country. They themselves have made LOADS OF MONEY but will not acknowledge Lula had anything to do with it.

Give me a break.

There is a new sheriff in town - get used to it.

Ah I missed your book review! It was great, sorry about that! I completely agree, as you know too well unfortunately this happens all the time in the US. Its always the social liberal that takes the heat from the upper class! He may not have built the bridge but from the little I know it seems he's done a great job at maintaining and enhancing the structure!
Let's hope the same for Dilma!

I will share this on FB. But I really do not believe the stadia and all the infrasctructure needed(hotels, roads, airports, etc.) will be ready for 2014.

Anita - I don't know ANYONE who thinks Brazil will be ready. But it will be what it will be -- and we will have fun. =8^)

Stay tuned, this train wreck will happen in real time and on the TV.
